What is an eFoil?

An eFoil is an electric hydrofoil surfboard (you'll also see it spelled e-foil or e foil). Above a certain speed, the wing under the board lifts you clear of the water and you fly almost silently over the surface. You don't need waves or wind. An eFoil works even on a mirror-flat lake, and most riders get their first stable flight after an hour or two on the water.

How the technology works, how you learn to fly and what gear you need: it's all in our eFoil guide. Every model you can buy right now is listed in our comparison table.

Which eFoil is right for you?

The market splits into three distinct segments. Here's the short version; the full breakdown is on the comparison page.

You're just starting out

Boards with a handlebar are the fastest way onto the water: the Flite Flitescooter or the Aerofoils Hyperfly. Among classic boards, the Waydoo EVO Max Plus is the most stable choice.

You want the best value

SiFly builds its boards in the EU: the Rider line starts at $5,990, backed by a warranty, and EU buyers pay no import duties.

You want premium

Lift and Flite are the two reference brands: carbon construction, a mature ecosystem and resale values that hold up. From $10,999.

More than foils: electric watersports

A foil is not the only quiet way across the water. Premium electric boats, jetboards and motorized SUPs are part of the same scene, and we keep an eye on all of them.

FoilFun covers foil watersports, now also in English. Prices and technical data come straight from the official manufacturer pages and are updated regularly, most recently in July 2026. The editors' favorite ride is still mirror-flat water at dawn: there are few better ways to start a day.

Frequently asked questions

What is an eFoil?

An eFoil is an electrically powered hydrofoil surfboard (also written e-foil). Above a certain speed, the wing under the board lifts you out of the water and you glide quietly over the surface. Wind and waves don't matter, which is why an eFoil feels as much at home on a calm inland lake as it does on the ocean.

How much does an eFoil cost in 2026?

Going by manufacturer price lists, entry-level sets run about €5,800 to €8,500 (Waydoo, SiFly), the mid-range sits between €8,500 and €12,000, and premium models from Lift, Flite, Aerofoils and Awake cost roughly €10,500 to €15,000. You'll find every current model with prices on our eFoil comparison page.

Where are you allowed to ride an eFoil?

That depends on the water. Rules for motorized boards differ by country and often by individual lake, so check your local regulations before riding. Calm, open water away from swimmers and boat traffic is the ideal place to start, and many schools and rental centers around the world let you try an eFoil before you buy one.

Is eFoiling hard to learn?

No. Most people are gliding steadily after an hour or two on the water, and riders with prior board-sport experience sometimes manage their first flight within 20 minutes. You learn lying down first, then kneeling, then standing; a coach makes the whole process faster and safer.
